Chennai World Chess Championship Hyatt Regency Celebrations: You might have already seen this: Here is the VG TV Magnus Carlsen video that has gone viral on the Internet. The World No. 1 is thrown into the swimming pool at the Chennai Hyatt Regency after winning the World Chess Championship beating Viswanathan Anand on Friday night. Left is the photo, the new World Chess Champion put up on his Facebook page after winning the title with the message: So happy to finally become World Champion!! Thanks for all your support!

Carlsen vs Anand: More Updates on Hotel Arrangements, Live Broadcast etc

- About 30 rooms have been booked for the Carlsen vs Anand World Chess Match at Hyatt Regency
- Separate floors for Team Anand and Team Carlsen with separate elevators to take each of the contenders to the playing glass cube
- Rooms allotted to FIDE representatives, the media, and other groups at the Hyatt Regency, Chennai
- Of the hotel's two ballrooms, the larger one on the ground floor has been reserved for the games, while the other, Studio, on Level 1 will be the designated media room. 
- Seven corporate boxes and tiered seating for around 300 spectators in the Regency Ballroom, which measures 8,880 sq ft
- The glass soundproof cubicle in which the games will be played erected in a corner of the Ballroom. 
- Spectators must deposit cellphones and electronic gadgets outside the Ballroom.
- Spectators cannot leave once the game of the day begins until its conclusion. 
- A pre-function area will have refreshments and way to the restroom.
- Black and white will be the theme decor at the Hyatt Regency with two-feet chess pieces scattered around the two hotel lobbies. 
- The lobby lounge will offer special High Tea on match days and small brain games will be arranged for guests and visitors.
- Inquiry counter in the lower lobby called The Queen's Desk, which will be attended 24/7 by two employees from Hyatt Regency  Front Office, dressed up as the king and queen. 
- The desk will answer any queries about the event, and will also offer guests tips on sight-seeing in Chennai, and related tourist inquiries.
- Two chess ambassadors on the ground floor to update guests about the event and circulate chess trivia. 
- Hotel to distribute to all its guests pocket-size infomation kits with emergency contact numbers in Chennai, shopping tips, news of events and promotions at the hotel etc.

World Chess Championship 2013 Venue Arrangements: Security, Seating Plan, Media Regulations

As is required for an event like the World Chess Championship, officials of the organising body are working round-the-clock to have everything in order. Here is a quick update on all the arrangements at the venue - the Chennai Hyatt Regency:

- Players’ security, playing area and seating arrangements have been finalised. No outsider will have access to World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand and World Chess Challenger Magnus Carlsen before the championship. The players will, however, attend the post-game press conference every day.

- Both chess teams are expected to check in at the Hyatt Regency by November 2-4 and would be allocated separate floors. Separate elevators will take Anand and Carlsen straight to the playing arena. All entry and exit points will be barricaded.

- Playing arena will be accessible only to the players, chief arbiter,  deputy arbiter and a hotel staff member for serving refreshments to the players.

- Media, public, fans won't have access to either Anand or Carlsen before the World Championship Match begins.  

- A sound proof glass partition will separate the players from the audience as has become an international tradition for international chess events. This, after all, is the World Chess Championship!

- Electronic gadgets, mobile phones, tablets, etc would not be allowed into the venue. 

- Two large audio-visual screens will be installed in the spectators' area. 

- A small area behind the spectators’ area will be available to 100 registered chess players at a time for watching the game of the day. This area will not have any seating arrangement. 

- Journalists would have to follow the match live in the media centre where post-game press conferences will also be held.

Chennai: FIDE vice-president Israel Gelfer has said, "As millions of fans from all over the world will be watching the Anand - Carlsen World Chess Championship 2013 live from various parts of the world through the Internet we have ensured that the connections were particularly of high quality. We are going to ensure that the server does not crash during the event."

All India Chess Federation CEO Bharat Singh said live video streaming of the match as well as live commentary on the internet will be made available.

Israel Gelfer was speaking to journalists in Chennai after inspecting arrangements made at the World Chess Championship 2013 venue Hyatt Regency. He told journalists at a press conference that the upcoming match would be one of the best, if not the best, in the entire history of world chess championship events.

Gelfer said he was fully satisfied with the arrangements. Both Carlsen and Anand's team have also said they were satisfied with the arrangements made for the historic chess match.

Gelfer recalled FIDE's association with Hyatt Group of Hotels as early as 2000 during the World Championship match held in New Delhi.

The 434 sq m (4670 sq ft) pillar-less ballroom, with an 18 ft high ceiling, is divisible into two soundproof sections. The ballroom has a dedicated entrance at the main porch and a spacious pre-function area of 391 sq m (4208 sq ft). Beautifully done with contemporary chandeliers dotting it’s ceiling; the ballroom is a visual treat. (Sources said the ballroom would be used for the Anand - Carlsen World Chess Championship 2013.)

FIDE vice-president D V Sundar also told journalists that arrangements had been made for 350 spectators to witness the match. He said a glass partition would be erected to separate the players and the spectators in order to ensure that the players do not get disturbed by the audience.

Side chess events at Anand - Carlsen World Chess Championship 2013 All-India Chess Federation Secretary V Hariharan told journalists about various other chess activities to be organised during the World Chess Championship 2013.

Hariharan said there would be a Women Grandmasters' event, an Open International Grandmasters' tournament, National Under-9 Chess Championship as well as a host of other events during November.

The first would be a 'Beach Blitz', wherein a Blitz event (5 minutes per player) will be organised at the Marina Beach beneath colourful umbrellas.

Hyatt Regency General Manager Sunjae Sharma said that Carlsen loved Indian delicacies during his stay at the Hyatt. He said that Hyatt Regency has a Norwegian chef and that Carlsen and his team members were very comfortable with the food served at the Hotel. -- Zainab Raza Undulusi
